How to do a Curtsy Lunge
- Stand tall with feet hip-width apart.
- Step one leg diagonally back and across behind the other.
- Bend both knees to lower until the back knee nears the floor.
- Keep your torso upright and front knee aligned over its toes.
- Push through the front heel to return to the start.
- Alternate sides or complete one side at a time.
Keep in mind
- Cross the back leg behind and slightly out, not straight behind.
- Keep both hips facing forward as you cross.
- The front foot stays flat with the knee tracking over the toes.
- Push back to standing through the front heel.
Common mistakes
- The front knee rolling inward as you cross — keep it pointing over the middle of the foot.
- The torso twisting with the leg — hips and shoulders stay square.
- Going deep too early — the range comes from your hips, not from courage.
Breathing
Breathe in as you cross and lower, out as you return to standing.
Take care
This puts a rotational load on the front knee — keep it shallow if a knee is unhappy, and leave it out after a recent knee injury.
